The Shire of Capel is located 180 kilometres south of Perth in the heart of the south west between the regional centres of Bunbury and Busselton. It is situated on the Indian Ocean coast and within the Geographe Wine Region. The town of Capel is 200 kilometres south of Perth, 26 kilometres south of Bunbury and 26 kilometres north of Busselton.
The 2015 estimated resident population (ERP) of the Shire of Capel is 17,316, an increase of 365 persons over the 2014 ERP of 16,951.
The population of the Geographe Bay/Capes region is now over 100,000 and the Greater Bunbury Region (City of Bunbury and Shires of Capel, Dardanup and Harvey) is 93,304.
